Professor Feng Quansheng’s discussion on COVID-19 from the perspective of plague theory in the micro-classroom of war "epidemic"

● Guide reading
Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has a large number of famous experts in traditional Chinese medicine. Li Sichi, Song Lubing and Zhang Zhiwen have accumulated rich experience in the prevention and treatment of schistosomiasis and leptospirosis in the 1960s, and in the prevention and treatment of SARS, avian influenza and post-disaster epidemic prevention in recent years. They are well-known in the theoretical research of traditional Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and plagues. Feng Quansheng, Dean of School of Basic Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has devoted himself to the study of plague theory for a long time, advocated the establishment of a theoretical system of modern infectious diseases of traditional Chinese medicine, edited and published an innovative textbook of Plague Science, and offered courses with plague characteristics to promote the development of plague theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
The concept of plague
The epidemic in COVID-19 since the end of last year belongs to the category of "plague" from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. Plague, "Etymology" is interpreted as: "Epidemic disease, an acute infectious disease caused by people or livestock and poultry." Then explain that plague is "the floorboard of acute infectious diseases". It can be seen that plague and epidemic disease have the same meaning, so Liu Songfeng once said: "The word’ plague’ is a string of words. If it is called plague, it is also true." Epidemic, "Shuo Wen Jie Zi" is interpreted as: "All people are sick." Wu Youke, Liu Songfeng and other epidemiologists have further elaborated on it, pointing out that "(epidemic) is like the battle of corvee, and everyone is equal." "Taking it as a disease, it is the same for all households, like corvee. Go to’ Yi’ and add’ Qi’, but take the ear related to the word "disease".
Classification of plague
According to the nature of the disease, plague can be divided into three types: warm epidemic, cold epidemic and miscellaneous epidemic.
The Special Pathogenic Factors of Plague and the Location of the Disease
Plague scientists emphasize that plague is caused by special pathogenic factors. For example, Wu Youke thinks that it is felt by miscellaneous gas, and Yang Lishan is the master of it; Liu Songfeng believes that it is caused by pathogenic poison; Yu Lin believes that it is a change of luck, and it is a disease for flourishing qi. Plague has a relatively stable lesion site, such as Wu Youke’s theory, which lies in the membrane and spreads to the stomach; Yang Lishan’s narrator, evil spirits are depressed and triple energizer; Yu Lin believes that the evil poison is full of Yangming.
Characteristics of plague experts in treating epidemic diseases
Plague scientists study a kind of exogenous fever which is caused by special pathogenic factors, threatens healthy people and develops in an epidemic way. Therefore, in order to control its spread, effective diagnosis and treatment principles and treatment methods are extremely critical.
First, it tends to look for specific drugs for the treatment of the cause; The second is to pay attention to the choice of drugs that go directly to the hospital. In order to effectively hit the pathogenic factors, the prescriptions used by plague scientists are mostly directed at the pathogenesis, with stable prescriptions and few drugs. For example, Wu can use Dayuan drink first, and then use Chengqi to attack; Yu Lin’s Qingwen Baidu drink, "No matter from beginning to end, this side is the main one"; Although there are more than 10 purgative and purgative drugs in Yanglishan, the principle of prescription is basically the same, "and the general prescription of ascending and descending is also".
Taking the past as a mirror, the treatment prescription is stable, which is convenient for the public to prevent and treat, and it is also easier to observe the curative effect. For example, in the year of Ganlong Wuzi (1768), Tongcheng epidemic was prevalent, and in the year of Ganlong Guichou (1793), there was a great plague in the capital, all of which were given with Qingwen Baidu drink, and all of them were in Huo Ran.
The guiding significance of studying pestilence to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19
For thousands of years, the theory of epidemic disease has played an important role in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and made important contributions to the reproduction of the Chinese nation. Therefore, today, we should be eclectic and systematically sort out the plague theories of past dynasties to guide the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 today. The excavation and arrangement of pestilence is not only the need for human beings to face the challenge of acute infectious diseases, but also the enrichment and deepening of the academic thought and content of epidemic febrile diseases. Plague, as a major supplement to epidemic febrile diseases, is bound to help improve the level of prevention and treatment of acute infectious diseases in traditional Chinese medicine and enrich the means and methods of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine.
